Would you look at that view? 

We've just returned from something we've never done before - two holidays in one. I can highly recommend it - switching holiday cottages in the middle of a fortnight was a bit of a faff but we do feel like we've been away for a long time. 

Our first week was in a secluded little house, high up on a hill overlooking Bala Lake. We spent a lot of time looking at this view (mostly from inside the cottage, the weather wasn't always this good), and pottered about north Wales on several excursions. 

Our neighbours were inquisitive, and considerably quieter than our neighbours at home. 

One morning we woke up and the lake had almost disappeared in a cloud. 

After a week, we (reluctantly) packed up and, after a tedious and stressful drive (about which the less said the better) we moved into Holiday Cottage 2, in Holmfirth, less than 30 miles from home. 

The view from Holiday Cottage 2 was less spectacular, but it was cheery and comfortable and I spent a lot of time sitting on the garden swing. 

Holmfirth has a profusion of little cafes, and it made me wish I'd actually watched some of Last of the Summer Wine before we went. 

Being close to home, we were able to meet up with some friends at the weekend for a cycle around Ladybower reservoir at the weekend. 

Suddenly Friday came round again, and we sneaked off for a last cafe trip before heading home this morning. 

Actually, I shouldn't say 'home' - this weekend we're staying at 'Holiday Cottage 3', which we have obtained for a very reasonable rate (free) because it is half decorated and full of boxes (and we already own it). 

Not quite the same as a holiday, but there's to be no DIY or house-related-cleaning-up until Monday at the earliest.
