My ticket entitles me to free return visits for a year, but I don't think I'll be going back, as impressive as it was. Maybe I should learn to scuba dive instead?
Sometimes I think back over the past couple of weeks and can't really remember what I've been doing. This is when being a habitual photo-taker comes in handy. Hmm. I sense a pattern emerging... But it hasn't all been cafes and cake. This week I've been to The Deep, an aquarium in Hull (although I admit we did have tea and cake in the cafe there too). I confess I was rather conflicted. My love of seeing underwater environments clashed with my dislike of seeing creatures penned in, whether that be cages or tanks. The Deep might well be 'one of the most spectacular aquariums in the world' (according to itself) but I still couldn't help but think that the 'Endless Oceon' didn't really look that endless, and that the fish living in it might well have roamed a bit further given the choice. Having said that, many of them were endangered species, so there's always a chance they wouldn't have survived in the real world.... and then we're back to the discussion of whether it's better to live in a cage or not exist at all. Hmm. Still, some of the smaller fish probably didn't have a bad deal - constant food supply and no danger of being eaten. Not too bad I suppose. And most things were kept well away from the pirahnas, who were surprisingly gold and glittery, but didn't look very impressed. The small child in our party was fascinated, and would, I imagine, have laid on the floor staring at the tutles or the starfish for most of the day given the choice.

That chocolate cake in the first picture looks so yummy, it's enough to get me on a plane to England immediately! And I haven't been on a plane to England since 1986. ;-)

That cake was indeed fab Lilypad (although I confess I'd usually go for chocolate AND cake, rather than chocolate cake, but this one was just too stripey and cheerful to resist!)
